Pursuit of Perfection Leadership Award Nominee Week #22 – Myles Brown from St. Christopher’s School.

 

Congratulations Myles Brown from St. Christopher’s School, our week 22 nominee for the Lexus of Richmond Pursuit of Perfection Leadership Award!

Myles is an outstanding student, for which he has received numerous accolades. With a GPA of 4.2, he is an AP Scholar with Honors, a National Spanish Exam Silver Medalist and Gold Medalist, a National Achievement Outstanding Student, and he received high honors (over 4.0) for his entire high school career. Active outside of the classroom as well, he is a Missionary Society president, a member of the MLS Club, a school Admissions Ambassador, a school Librarian Ambassador and a peer advisor to ninth graders as they transition into high school. Myles excels on the field, too, and has received much recognition for his soccer skills. He is team captain of his school’s varsity team, ranked #7 prospect for the class of 2015 in the mid-Atlantic region and #35 for national midfielders for the class of 2015, captain and leading scorer of the Richmond United u18 Academy Soccer Team, he trained with and was a starting midfielder for the Arsenal Football Club in London. He also attended the id2 National Identification Camp, U.S. Market Training Camp, and the Olympic Development Program for Regional, District and State teams. Myles is active in the community, having volunteering his time for the Own Touch Soccer Camp, Virginia Food Bank, Massey Cancer Walk, Houlagan’s Rest Dog Rescue, Saturday Academy, and is the president of the Missionary Society at his school.

Myles plans to soccer for the University of Notre Dame in the fall.

Pursuit of Perfection Leadership Award Nominee Week #21 – Chandrika Dandamudi from Henrico High School.

Congratulations Chandrika Dandamudi from Henrico High School, our week 21 nominee for the Lexus of Richmond Pursuit of Perfection Leadership Award!

With a 5.001 GPA, Chandrika has made honor roll every year, is a recipient of the William & Mary Leadership Award and IBMYP Certificate, and was also an IBDP Diploma Candidate. She has been a member of the Beta Club, Key Club, Recycling Club, and National Honor Society, as well as the Math, Science, Spanish and History Honor Societies. She is also the treasurer of the Model United Nations and the Future Health Professionals vice president. On the field, Chandrika is an avid field hockey player. She was the JV team captain, recipient of the All-Defense Award, and she and her team were Conference Champions, 1st Team All-Conference, and 2nd Team All-Region. She was also a member of her school’s swim team in the 9th and 10th grades, competing in district and regional meets. Chandrika has been active in the community, having donated her time as a volunteer at St. Mary’s Hospital, Camp Connected, Big Feet Meet, and for MCV Research.

Pursuit of Perfection Leadership Award Nominee Week # 20 – Bender Vaught from Patrick Henry High School.

Congratulations Bender Vaught from Patrick Henry High School, our week 20 nominee for the Lexus of Richmond Pursuit of Perfection Leadership Award!

With a 4.1 GPA, Bender is a member of the Beta Club, SODA, Quill and Scroll, Environmental Club, LEO Club, and the National Honor Society, and was accepted into the University of Richmond Emerging Leaders Program. He is the Vice President of his class, the managing editor of his school newspaper, a chief in the NJROTC, and the appointed SCA/ICC Class rep. He has also participated in mass communications at his school as a writer, producer and anchor for his school news throughout high school. Bender has participated in several sports, including basketball, track and field, and football. He was the team captain of his AYA U15 basketball team, a District Track and Field meet qualifier in 300m and broad jump, and a varsity team member. Captain of his junior varsity and varsity football teams, Bender has excelled in football. He led his team in tackles his sophomore year, was named 1st Team All-Conference running back and 1st Team All-Conference linebacker, was the Richmond Times Dispatch rushing top performer in 2013 and in 2014, and was named the James River Air Patrick Henry Player of the Week in September 2014. Bender has been active in the community as the AYA Youth Basketball assistant coach (2011-2013), the Ashland LAX Middle School assistant coach (2013), and a Patrick Henry Youth Football Camp leader (202-2014), and has also donated his time to the SODA 4th grade mentoring program, and to the Inner-City Outreach program in Gilpin Court, in which he has been an active participant for the past 10 years.

Pursuit of Perfection Leadership Award Nominee Week 19 – Skyler Zunk from Cosby High School.

Congratulations Skyler Zunk from Cosby High School, our week 19 nominee for the Lexus of Richmond Pursuit of Perfection Leadership Award!

With a GPA of 4.45, Skyler is the president of the National Honor Society, a member of the National Spanish Honor Society, the National Beta Club, Key Club, and the Cosby Health Science Specialty Center, and was named Health Science Exploration Student of the Year in 2012. He is active in the Boy Scouts as an Eagle Scout with three palms (gold, silver, bronze). He has been Senior Patrol Leader, Troop Guide and Den Chief, and was awarded the 2013 Glenn A. and Melinda W. Adams National Eagle Scout Service Project of the Year Award for the outdoor worship center he built at Bethia United Methodist Church. Skyler has also been elected as a delegate for the Boys State, is a contributor to the “Letter to the Editor” section of the Richmond Times Dispatch, an elected crew leader of the Philmont Scout Ranch Trek, member of the Philmont High Adventure Rayado Trek, attended the Buckskin National Youth Leadership training in 2012, and is member of the National UMC Council and recipient of the Good Samaritan Award for the United Methodist Church. Also active on the field, Skyler’s passion lies in running track and cross country. In cross country, he has earned 4 varsity letters, All-Conference in 2014, and was team captain in 2013 and 2014. He is also the team captain of both his indoor and outdoor track teams, for which he has earned 4 varsity letters in both, as well as All-Conference in 2014. He has also been on the Woodlake Swim Team for 5 years and was a 3-time championship meet qualifier. Skyler has been very active in the community, donating his time to the VDOT Adopt a Highway Litter Pick-up (for the last 7 years), Phillips Fire House Fall Festival (last 6 years), Bethia United Methodist Mens Club (x6 years), and Scouting for Food (x12 years). He has also donated 30+ hours of healthcare-oriented volunteer work for the past 4 years and has been appointed as a student member of the Chesterfield County School Health Advisory Board, as well as the School Board Student Wellness Policy 4190 Revision Board.

Skyler plans to attend Washington and Lee University where he will run cross country and track and will major in Bio/Science to work towards getting his MD and PHD.

Pursuit of Perfection Leadership Award Nominee Week #18 – Fernando (Nando) Andrés Pascual-Márquez from The Math and Science High School at Clover Hill!

Congratulations Fernando (Nando) Andrés Pascual-Márquez from The Math and Science High School at Clover Hill, our week 18 nominee for the Lexus of Richmond Pursuit of Perfection Leadership Award!

Nando is an excellent student with a GPA of 4.25, and is a member of the National Honor Society, the Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society, and the Japanese Honor Society, and is the Vice President of the Science National Honor Society. He is a member of the beta club and the robotics club, he received superior ratings from the National Federation of Music Clubs, and has been playing the piano for 12 years. With a deep interest in space, Nando is the president and founder of his school’s Astronomy Club, is a member of the Richmond Astronomical Society and has participated in the Virginia Space Coast Scholar Program. Additionally, he was one of only twelve students selected for the NASA Summer Governor’s Mentorship. Active in soccer and football, and recipient of the All-Academic Athlete Award, Nando has been successful on the field as well. He played as starting goalkeeper on the Powhatan Fury Soccer Club, and he also played on his school’s varsity soccer team in the 10th and 11th grades, which won the title of 2014 Conference Champions. In football, he plays as punter and kicker, and was 1st Team All District and All Conference, as well as Special Teams Player of the Year. Nando gives back to the community by volunteering his time for the Science Museum of Virginia, Rocket 4 the Cure, and CARITAS. He also plays piano for St. Gabriel Church and tutors for various honor societies.

Congratulations Richard Bailey from St. Christopher’s School, our week 17 nominee for the Lexus of Richmond Pursuit of Perfection Leadership Award!

Richard is an outstanding student-athlete, for which he has received a great deal of recognition. With a 4.6 GPA and a score of 2280 on his SATs, he is an AP Scholar with Distinction, a National Merit Scholar Semi-Finalist, a Continental Calculus Contest high scorer, first place winner of his school’s Cyber Foundation Award, and a recipient of the University of Virginia’s Jefferson Book Award to name a few of his accolades.  Richard has been active outside of the classroom in the Boy Scouts (now an Eagle Scout with Bronze Palms and a member of the Order of the Arrow Brotherhood), as a member of his school’s Robotics Club and as a member of the Battle of the Brains team. He has a passion for music and is quite an accomplished harp player. As a member of the American Youth Harp Ensemble, Richard has performed in Vienna and Salzburg, Austria, at the World Harp Congress in Sydney, Australia, the Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, and at Carnegie Hall. Also athletically gifted, he ran varsity cross-country and varsity track for his school; but his real passion is for swimming and diving. He is the team captain of his varsity swim team, as well as his varsity dive team which was named 2nd Team All-Metro and placed in the top 10 in National Championships. Richard gives back to the community by volunteering his time for a number of programs, such as CARITASVA Department of Parks and Recreation Youth Conservation Corps, and Camp Selah Ministries, among others. Additionally, he plays harp at various churches, hospitals, nursing homes and rehabilitation centers throughout the region. In 2012, Richard was named one of Style Weekly’s “16 Under 16” in recognition of his numerous achievements.

Katherine is an accomplished scholar and has received a number of accolades for her academic success. With a 4.63 GPA, she has made honor roll every year, was Summa Cum Laude at East Grand Rapids High School and Cum Laude Society at Collegiate and has received the Dartmouth Book Award and AP Scholar with Distinction Award. She has been a member of several clubs and programs, including the Key Club, Spanish Club, Ronald McDonald House of Western Michigan Youth Advisory Board, Michigan Youth in Government, East Grand Rapids Youth Development Programs, and the Collegiate School International Emerging Leaders Conference. Katherine is a well-rounded athlete having participated and excelled in several sports, including lacrosse, cross-country, winter track, basketball and field hockey. She received the Guard Coaches Award for varsity basketball, went to the State Championships and received All-Conference Honorable Mention on her varsity cross-country team, and on her varsity lacrosse team she was awarded First Team All-State, All-LIS, and LIS Champions, as well as Second Team All-State, All-Conference, State and Conference Champions. Katherine has been active in the community as a volunteer for the SPCA, Faison School for Autism, Clark Retirement Community, Oak Grade Bellmeade Project, and the John Ball Zoo.
