Lexus of Richmond Leadership Award Week 17 – Dillon Powell

Lexus of Richmond’s week 17 nominee for the Leadership Award is Dillon Powell of Midlothian High School. He is the anticipated valedictorian with a 5.017 GPA and a SAT score of 1510 of a possible 1600.  He is a member of the National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Math National Honor Society, German National Honor Society and Social Studies Honor Society. He was named the AP Student of the Year in his junior year, and is currently enrolled in Stanford’s Pre-Collegiate Studies Program for multivariable differential calculus.

Dillon has played lacrosse at Midlothian since freshman year and is currently the captain, and he even was involved in making it an official sport at the school. During his 10th grade season, the team won the Conference Title and went on to be a state semifinalist. Dillon was selected for the All Conference team and the All South Regional team after his 10th and 11th grade seasons. While at Midlothian, Dillon has held student council positions all four years of high school. He has also founded two clubs at his school; the Alzheimer’s and Dementia Club and the Chess Club. Dillon was selected as a Junior Marshall where he took part in organizing the graduation ceremony.

All throughout high school, Dillon has coached children’s and young teenagers’ lacrosse teams through the Chesterfield Youth League. He has also partnered with Sportable to assist and coach wheelchair lacrosse teams and disabled swimming teams; he also managed equipment for the lacrosse team for Sportable. Through founding the Midlothian High Alzheimer’s and Dementia Awareness Club, Dillon has been helping educate other students on the effects of the illness. He plans on organizing charity events and tying them into his spring lacrosse games.

Dillon has won a dinner for two and is now in the running for the $10,000 scholarship. Lexus of Richmond’s Leadership Award Week 16 – Lauren Golmon

Lexus of Richmond’s Leadership Award week 16 nominee is Lauren Golmon of Glen Allen High School. She is currently in her graduating class’ top 10 with a 4.5 GPA. Having been on the A Honor Roll throughout high school, Lauren is a member of the National Honor Society and Rho Kappa a History Honor Society. She has also received an AP Scholar with Distinction award. She was the State Champion in the Governor’s Challenge for Personal Finance where she was recognized as the Individual High Scorer.

During her freshman year, Lauren played JV and Varsity softball, and she earned an MVP award for the JV team. She has been on the varsity team all four years playing 1st base and catcher and has earned the most improved player award in her 10th grade season. After 10th grade she was selected for the 2nd Team All-Conference and Academic All-Conference Teams. After her junior season, Lauren was named to the 1st Team All-Conference and Academic All-Conference Teams as well as the 2nd Team All-Region and Academic All Region Teams. Since 10th grade, Lauren has been a member of the Key Club as a grade level director for two years and currently the club secretary. She is also a Student Congress Representative as an Executive Caucus Member. Lauren created the first ever Math Bowl at Glen Allen HS during her sophomore year and is currently the Vice President of Mu Alpha Theta.

Lauren spends time with Partners for Success by tutoring other students in all subjects to help them prep for exams and finals. She also helps the senior community in Glen Allen by teaching technology classes in order to help the class better understand safe internet practices. Recently, Lauren has volunteered at the Memorial Regional Medical Center. She has worked the front desk, answers call bells and discharges patients.

Lexus of Richmond Leadership Award Week 15 – Frost Wood

Frost Wood of St. Christopher’s School is Lexus of Richmond’s week 15 nominee for the Leadership Award Scholarship. With his current 4.0 GPA, Frost is a  National Merit Scholarship Commended Scholar and an AP Scholar with Honors. In 2015, he was selected for the National Academy of Future Scientists and Technologists Award of Excellence. He also attended the International Boys School Coalition Conference in 2016 as he was selected by the school faculty to be St. Chris’ delegate at the conference in Vancouver.

While at St. Chris, Frost has played varsity soccer all four years and is the current captain. In 2016, he was chosen for the All State 2nd team, and in 2015 and 2016 he was a part of the All Virginia Prep League Team. The team took the State Title in 2014 and 2016. They are also the Prep League Champs in 2014 – 2016. Frost is also a member of the varsity swim team all throughout high school and is the current captain. Additionally he competed on the varsity track team for 4 years. Frost has taken part in the St. ChristoCURE’s Cancer Awareness Team for 3 years which participates in the Monument Avenue 10k. He has been involved in student council as a Vice President for 2 years, and he is the President of the Political Awareness Club.

Active in the community, Frost has spent time tutoring and mentoring boys in St. Chris’ lower school as well as elementary students through Saturday Academy. He has spent time with FeedMore working in the kitchens and food bank. He has also worked on a landscape project  at the Peter Paul Development Center. During the summer of 2013, Frost traveled to Costa Rica for a week long service and immersion trip.

Lexus of Richmond Leadership Award Week 14 – Morgan Lewis

Lexus of Richmond’s Leadership Award week 14 nominee is Morgan Lewis from the Veritas School. With a GPA of 4.0, Morgan is currently in the top 2 of her graduating class. She is a member of the National Honor Society since being inducted in 2015. Morgan won a gold medal for the National Latin Exam. In 2015, she won two Book Awards for the Veritas School Science Department and the Humanities Department. Currently she is a UVA Jefferson Scholarship nominee.

While at Veritas, Morgan has competed on the cross country and track & field team. She is the VISAA cross country State Champion from 2012 and 2014 – 2016. She’s the indoor track 3200m state champion in 2014 and the outdoor track state champion for the 1600m and 3200m in 2014 and 2015. Morgan holds 14 school records for running at Veritas, and she was named the Richmond Times Dispatch Scholar Athlete of the Month in September 2016. To go along with her athletics, Morgan is also an accomplished violinist as a member of the Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra.

Morgan has been involved with United Athletics where she aided disabled athletes during triathlons. In addition, she has spent time with the Virginia Home for Boys and Girls by putting together strength, running and nutrition clinics for the children. Morgan is the founder and organizer of Run for Mukhanyo which is a children’s run fundraiser for a South African school for AIDS orphans and vulnerable children. The richmond run averages $16,000 a year and has happened annually for 6 years. She has also created two additional runs in North Carolina. All together the three runs brought in $40,000 this past year.

Lexus of Richmond Leadership Award Week 13 – Peyton Badura

Lexus of Richmond’s week 13 nominee for the Leadership Award Scholarship is Peyton Badura of James River High School Center for Leadership and International Relations. She currently has a 4.52 GPA as a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society. She has received a National Society of High School Scholars Award, and Peyton was a Junior Marshall being in the top 25 of her class. She was also the recipient of the James River High School Most Valuable Rapid which was based on outstanding academics, leadership and service.

Having played on James River’s varsity crew team throughout high school, Peyton is currently the captain and has been named the MVP two times. The team competes during all three seasons; fall, winter (indoor), and spring. In 2015, she was named to the National Rowing Association of America. This was an invitation to compete in a National sprint race where she finished 9th in the Nation. Peyton has served on James River’s Leadership Council all four years of school as the International Relations chair, Recruiting Chair and Communications Chair. She has served on the Chesterfield County Youth Services Citizen Board as Chairman of a 42 member board. She is also the founder and president of Project GUDWorks, a club that collects donations then gives the items to local and national charities.

Peyton is the Founder of You’ve Been Asked, which raises money for the ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation. The initial donor will nominate a neighbor/friend and then the group places a sign in their yard asking them to donate. Having worked through two neighborhoods, the organization has collected $17,500. She founded the Dunkin’ Donuts Munchkin 1 Mile Relay for ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation which has raised $2,500.

Lexus of Richmond Leadership Award Week 12 – Gwin Sinnott

Gwin Sinnott of the Collegiate School is Lexus of Richmond’s week 12 nominee for the Leadership Award Scholarship. In 2015, she was named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Academic Squad. She previously was selected to the IELC, an international conference, as a Junior Ambassador; and she was chosen for the IEL, an international conference in Mexico City, as America’s Senior Ambassador.

She has been on Collegiate’s varsity lacrosse team all four years of high school in the midfield. The team was the 2014 LIS Champion. She has been named to the All Metro Team, the All LIS Team, and First Team All State for lacrosse. She was her team’s MVP in 2016. Gwin has also played varsity field hockey all throughout high school playing midfield and defense. The team was the 2013 VISSA state champion. Gwin has been involved in Collegiate’s Community Service Council where she served as a class representative as a freshman and sophomore, and now she is the council’s secretary since junior year.

For 9th -12th grade, Gwin has been a part of Collegiate’s Community Council which promotes community service events as a chance for other students to participate. She volunteers for Geronimo Lacrosse to coach 1st – 6th grade girls. Gwin is also a part of 100 4 100 in Richmond. The organization raises money for inner city kids. Around Christmas time, those kids are able to go shopping with their $100 with the help of an organization member.
