The 21st Annual Pursuit of Perfection Leadership Award program had a great year with 30 outstanding weekly nominees! We hope you enjoyed getting to know these student-athlete scholarship nominees as we did this past school year. Our winner was chosen based on academic performance, athletic achievement, extra curricular activities and contributions to the community.

Phuong Dao from Mills E Godwin High School has been an exemplary student throughout her high school career. With a distinguished GPA of 4.95, she is an AP Scholar with Honors and a PSAT award winner in her junior year. She is also the recipient of awards through the National, French, and Math Honor Societies.

Phuong is very dedicated outside the classroom serving as the Mills E Godwin Senior Class President. She worked as the Math Honor Society Public Relations Officer, while also being a Peer Helper for three years. An accomplished musician, Phuong aspired to play piano in an orchestra, but began developing a strong devotion to her athletic ambitions. However she continued to take lessons under the instruction of highly renowned Dr. Yin Zheng. Phung even volunteers her time to play piano recitals at senior nursing homes. She also is a harpist who would play for church events and weddings.

Phuong is a gifted figure skater who receives training from World and Olympic coach, Valentyn Nikolayev. In 2013, Phuong competed at the State Games of America in the Junior Level for singles free skating and took home a 4th place finish. The same year, Phung placed 1st at the State Games of Virginia. In 2015, she finished in 8th place for a National Showcase in the Junior Level. Phuong has collected numerous distinctions in figure skating and hopes to one day add Team USA, Olympic Figure Skater to her list of accomplishments.

Ever present and active in the community, Phuong works with the March of Dimes – Skate4Babies as a charity ambassador. She volunteered her time at Family and Cosmetic Dentistry as a Vietnamese Translator for patients. She served as a Make A Wish Greater Virginia Youth Campaign President and Founder. Other volunteer work includes; tutoring for Math and National Honor Society, working at various hospitals, working at figure skating competitions, and many other community service projects.

We commend Phung for her athletic skill, academic distinction, extra curricular activities and time spent helping the community. We are pleased to present and support this outstanding young lady. We know Phuong will continue to excel as she moves forward in her pursuit of perfection.
