Lexus of Richmond Leadership Award Week 21 – Sydney Pulliam


Lexus of Richmond’s week 21 nominee for the Leadership Award Scholarship is Sydney Pullman of Douglas Southall Freeman High School in the Center for Leadership, Government and Global Economics. With a 4.57 GPA, she is ranked in the top 14 of her class. She received a 1420 out of 1600 on the SATs and is a member of both the National Honor Society and the Math Honor Society. Sydney has completed 6 AP courses and is currently enrolled in an additional 6 AP courses as a senior. She is a member of the Beta Club and is involved in We the People, a National Constitution Competition.

As a 4 year Varsity Softball player at Freeman, Sydney is a two season captain as a shortstop as well as 3rd and 2nd baseman. She has been named to the 1st Team All Conference and All District Honorable Mention. In 2016 she received the Varsity Softball Offensive Player of the Year Award, and in 2017 she was presented the Varsity Softball Leadership Award. Outside of the school team, Sydney has been on 3 travel and showcase softball team over 10 years. During this time, she has collected 13 individual MVP Tournament Awards and nearly 50 Championship Team Awards.

Interested in law and government, Sydney completed an internship at the Supreme Court of Virginia under Executive Secretary Karl Hade. At Douglas Freeman she is a member of the Model UN and Model Congress. The later of which she received an Outstanding Delegate Award. In 2014 Sydney was the Student Council Association President. As a member of the Real Talk Club, she writes monthly debates on various topics. Sydney has also spent her time as a tutor for middle and high school students.

During her time at Freeman, Sydney has been a peer tutor in Math, History, English and Spanish as well as a mentor for SOL Remission Students for both middle school and high school. She is the President of the Rebelettes Community Service Club at Freeman. Outside of school, Sydney has volunteered her time for Hands On Greater Richmond and Bandit’s Adoption and Rescue of K-9’s (BARK).

Sydney has won a dinner for two and is now in the running for the $10,000 scholarship.
