Lexus of Richmond Leadership Award Week 25 – Joe Paul

IMG_5504Lexus of Richmond’s week 25 nominee for the Leadership Award Scholarship is Joe Paul of Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School. Joe scored a 1510 out of 1600 on his SATs and has a current 4.34 overall GPA. He is a two year member of the National Honor Society, the National English Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society and the Thomas Jefferson History Honor Society as well a three year member of the National Spanish Honor Society.

Joe is a 4 year member of the Wrestling team, Cross Country team, Indoor Track team and the Outdoor Track team. During senior year he was the captain of all four teams. As a wrestler, he is a three time conference finalist and two time conference champion. He is a three time regional finalist and two time regional champion. Joe won the State Championship as a sophomore and senior. As a senior he went 32-0, and his career record is 109-9. Through cross country, Joe has been named to the All Conference Team, All Region Team, and All State Team twice each. The Team won the State Championship all four years from 2014-2017. With indoor track, Joe is a two time State qualifier for both pole vaulting and the two mile. On the outdoor track team, Joe has been named to the All Conference Team twice for pole vault and two mile. He has also been selected for pole vaulting as a two time All Region Team and two time All State Team.

As a freshman at Maggie Walker, Joe co-founded the Frisbee club and is currently the President as a senior. During 10th and 11th grade, he was a member of the Debate Team at school, and the group qualified and competed at States. Joe was also a member and chair of the Model Congress. Having been inducted in the National History Honor Society, Joe is currently the treasurer for the group. Additionally, he is a member of the Spanish Club and Chess Club.

Being a co-founder and President of the Frisbee club in school, Joe is also the organizer of the Maggie Walker Charity Frisbee Tournament. In order to participate in the tournament, teams will either pay a fee or donate canned goods. The donations and money are delivered to Feedmore RVA. Joe has spent time as a teachers aide for Prince George County Schools Summer Enrichment program from 2014-2016. Additionally, he has been a library aide at L.L. Beazley Elementary School as well as a referee for Powhatan Youth Wrestling.

Joe has won a dinner for two and is now in the running for the $10,000 scholarship.
