Lexus of Richmond Leadership Award Week 3 – Izzy LeBey

Izzy LeBey of the Collegiate School is Lexus of Richmond’s week 3 nominee for the Leadership Award Scholarship. With her current GPA of 4.18, she is an AP Scholar, has been on the Dean’s List, and on the Honor Roll all throughout high school. Upon taking the International Youth Chinese Test, Izzy received a High Pass for level 1, 2, and 3. Additionally, she is a member of the Battle of the Brains, and she received the Debate Award in 2015 and the James F. Oats III Art Study Grant earlier this year.

For senior year, Izzy is the cross country team captain and a 6 year varsity runner for cross country and track. A decorated athlete, she has twice been named the USA Track and Field Virginia 1500m Champion and twice named the 800m Virginia Champion. Beyond that, Izzy won the USA Track and Field Mid Atlantic Region 1500m and 800m and qualified for the National Championships. She has received accolades including: 3 All State Cross Country Honors, 3 All State Track Honors, 2 All Metro Track Honors, and 7 All League of Independent Schools Honors between Cross Country and Track.

Heavily involved in life outside the classroom, Izzy has been on Collegiate’s Battle of the Brains team and their State Academic team both for two years. Other organizations she participates with include Collegiate’ literary magazine, Earth Society, and RAMPS or Ramp Access Made Possible by Students. Beyond school functions, she has studied sustainable farming and culinary arts. This allowed her to travel to Italy and learn first hand on a sustainable farm where she learned the stages of production of prosciutto of the heritage pig breed under protective status, and she worked as a casaro on a sustainable goat farm.

Having a passion for her sport and wanting others to enjoy it, Izzy founded a charity where students at Collegiate can donate their gently used track shoes and spikes for Anna Julia Cooper School’s track and cross country athletes. She has worked with others to help paint the Hilliard House for abused mothers and children. Izzy has also spent time catering for groups such as: Stop Child Abuse Now, Caritas, and for patients at The Doorways.

Izzy has won a dinner for two and is now in the running for the $10,000 scholarship.
