Lexus of Richmond’s Leadership Award week 7 nominee is Will Forrest of St. Christopher’s School. Currently ranked in his school’s top 5 students, he has a 4.5 GPA. Will is an AP Scholar with Distinction having scored perfect scores on 2 AP Tests. He has received high honors every semester and was awarded for having the second highest GPA of the freshman class. During junior year, Will received the William and Mary Leadership Award after being chosen by St. Chris’ faculty, and he is currently the school’s nominee for the Morehead Scholarship.
Having played St. Chris football, 2 years on varsity, Will plays multiple positions including; defensive back, wide receiver and quarterback. Following his junior season, he collected several honors. He was named to the First Team All State, First Team All Prep, and All Metro Honorable Mention. Additionally at St. Chris, Will has previously been on the basketball and lacrosse teams.
Will has been heavily involved in various organizations during his time at St. Christopher’s. Having co-founded MIND (Mental Illness Needs Discussion), Will is now the head of the group which allows students to openly discuss mental health issues including depression or anxiety. He is a member of the Middle School Mentors program and is currently the head of the Peer Advisory Program. Both of these groups involve upper school students guiding the younger students through either middle school or high school. As a member of Saints for Social Justice, Will helps promote diversity and facilitates conversations regarding social justice. Will is also in St. Chris’ Glee Club as well as The Beaux Ties, an acapella group.
Through St. Christopher’s, Will is a three year member of the 100 for 100 Project. This group works together to raise money from local businesses in order to give underprivileged children a shopping day at Dick’s Sporting Goods. Each child receives a $100 gift card, and they are accompanied by the students from St. Chris as they shop. Will has also spent time volunteering for Houlagan’s Rest dog shelter. During this time, he was able to train and help rehabilitate abandoned or abused dogs. For his Eagle Scout Project, Will took on building boxes to help save endangered warbler birds. These housing boxes are located along the Mattaponi and Pamunkey River.
Will has won a dinner for two and is now in the running for the $10,000 scholarship.
