Our 14th scholar athlete nominee for the Lexus of Richmond Leadership Award is Neal Dhar of St. Christopher’s School. With a 4.4 GPA he is ranked in the Top 10% of his class. Neal scored a 1530 out of a possible 1600 on the SAT Exam and a 770 out of 800 on the Spanish SAT II. He is an AP Scholar with Distinction, and he has received High Honors every semester of high school. As a member of the Spanish National Honor Society, Neal has received a Certificate of Excellence. Neal was St. Christopher’s nominee for the Belk Scholarship at Davidson College.
Outside of the classroom, Neal is involved in several student organizations. He is a Co-Founder of the Saints Against Humanitarian Crises which raises awareness and financial support for worldwide humanitarian causes. Since his sophomore year, Neal has been a member of the Philosophy Club, Political Awareness Club and the Chess Club. As a senior, he is the Editor of the Pine Needle. For his junior and senior year, Neal is a Peer Advisor at St. Chris. In 2019 Neal held a Medical Internship with dermatologist, Dr. Julia Padgett.
Throughout his high school career, Neal has been highly involved in athletics. A 3 year Varsity Cross Country runner, he won the Individual Prep League Championship as a senior. He is a 3 time All Prep and All State runner. As a senior he was recognized on the All Metro Team. Neal is a two time winer of the Beurlein Distance Award which is the top team award, selected by the coaches. With the team, he is a 3x Prep League Champion and 3x State Champion. A 4 year member of the Varsity Indoor Track team, Neal qualified for the New Balance Nationals as a freshman. With the team, he is a 3x Prep League Champion and a 2x State Champion. Neal is a 4 year member of the Outdoor Track team. The team has won the Prep League Championship 3 times and the State Championship twice.
Giving back to his community throughout high school, Neal has volunteered for a variety of projects. As a freshman Neal helped to clean up the East End Cemetery graves. He volunteered at Church Hill Academy. For his junior and senior years Neal has participated with both Meals On Wheels/Feedmore and Project:Homes. He was an intern for Medicines for All Institute at VCU; this program helps to reduce the cost of pharmaceutical ingredients. Following a family trip to Iran, Neal decided to help feed to the hungry in Isfahan which resulted in founding the Saints for Humanitarian Crises.
Neal has won a dinner for two and is now in the running for the $25,000 scholarship.
