The third scholar athlete in Lexus of Richmond’s Class of 2020 Leadership Award is Luke Lamberson of James River High School. Luke is ranked 4th in a class of 451 students with his 4.963 GPA. Having scored a perfect 800 on the math portion, he received a 1580 out of 1600 on the SAT. Additionally, he scored perfect 800’s on the SAT Math 2 and the SAT World History. Luke earned a perfect 36 on his ACT, and he has 10 perfect AP Exam scores to his name. He is a National Merit Semifinalist and a Harvard Book Award recipient. Luke was awarded 1st Place at the State Chemistry Olympiad Exam. In both 2018 and 2019 he took 1st Place in the Chesterfield County STEAM Competition. He was selected to participate in the John Hopkins University Study of Exceptional Talent Program. Luke is a member of the National Honor Society as well as the World Language, Math, and Social Studies Honor Societies.
As a member of James River’s community, Luke has been involved in numerous groups outside of the classroom. He is the Mu Alpha Theta President as a senior. He is a member of the Beta Club and the Latin Club. As a member of the Model United Nations, Luke is the current Vice President and was a two year Committee Chair. Luke is the SURF Freshman Mentoring Program Council Leader. He is also a three year Recruiting Coordinator for the Leadership and International Relations Center at James River.
Upon graduation, Luke will have lettered in 12 varsity sport seasons. He is a 4 time Varsity Cross Country, Indoor Track and Outdoor Track athlete. With cross country, Luke is the current captain in his senior season. He is the King of the Hill XC Race, 2019 Champion. As a freshman he was named the MVP Newcomer. In 2018 the team was the 6A Regional Champion. On the Indoor Track team Luke has been recognized with the Fierce Rapid Award in 9th grade and the Coaches Award as a sophomore. Luke had the best time on the team in the 1000m as a sophomore and a junior. He also qualified for States in the 4×800 Relay. Luke was selected to be captain of the outdoor track team in 10th, 11th, and 12th grade, and he received the Coaches Award as a junior. In his 10th and 11th grade seasons, Luke held the team best time for the 800m. Luke is a school record holder for the 4x1600m Relay and Distance Medley Relay.
As a student in the Leadership and International Relations Center, Luke is working on a Senior Capstone project. He will be raising awareness for the Hilliard House, a local temporary homeless shelter. Luke is also a coach for the Special Olympics Mile Training, and he is a volunteer coach for the middle school cross country and track teams. He is a weekly math tutor at James River and a James River Little Feet Meet Mentor. Luke is a CARITAS Homeless Shelter Volunteer. He has spent time with Rise Against Hunger supporting their meal packing program. For the past seven years, Luke has supported the Central Virginia Food Bank with weekly donations.
Luke has won a dinner for two and is now in the running for the $25,000 scholarship.
