Lexus of Richmond’s 25th Leadership Award, Week 7 – Gilbert Deglau

Gilbert Deglau of The Collegiate School is Lexus of Richmond’s week 7 scholar athlete for the Leadership Award Scholarship. With a current 4.29 GPA, he has ended every semester on the A/B Honor Roll. Gilbert scored a 1490 out of a possible 1600 on the SAT exam, and he has earned two perfect AP exam scores. Gilbert has received National Merit Recognition for his efforts. He was recognized with Distinguished Participation in the National Spanish Exam. He attended the Congress of Future Medical Professionals. Gilbert was invited to participate in the American Chemical Society US National Chemistry Olympiad.

Outside of the classroom at Collegiate, Gilbert is involved in several student organizations. He participates as a member of the school’s Model UN. He is  a member of Ducks Unlimited and a counselor for Virginia Fishing Adventures. Gilbert is the Co-President of the Sports Discussion Club, where he is responsible for planning and organizing the Fight Cancer, Choose Joy Wiffleball Tournament.

Through his time at Collegiate, Gilbert has participated in several sports. He is in his 2nd year as a Starting Center for the Varsity Football team, and he is the current captain. Following his junior season Gilbert was named to the 2nd Team All State and 2018 All Conference Team. He was also the recipient of the 2018 Offensive Coaches Award. Gilbert has been on both the Varsity Indoor and Outdoor Track teams since sophomore year. With the indoor track team, Gilbert has competed in the State Meet for shot put. Gilbert has competed in the Outdoor Track State Meet for both discuss and shot put. In addition to his listed athletic accomplishments, Gilbert spent two seasons on the JV Football team, one season with JV Lacrosse, and two seasons on the Varsity Swim team. Gilbert will be continuing his football career as he has committed to play for Davidson College.

Gilbert has given his time to numerous organizations through service for his community. He has spent time volunteering for St. Francis Home. He has given time to both the Irish Festival and the Canterbury Festival. Gilbert has volunteered for the Village Green Fair and Feed My Starving Children organization. Gilbert is as volunteer flag football coach and referee, and he spends time with the Paralyzed Veterans Association for their Rugby Tournament.

Gilbert has won a dinner for two and is now in the running for the $25,000 scholarship.
