Lexus of Richmond’s week 9 scholar athlete nominee for the Leadership Award Scholarship is Carter Morgan of Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School. With a 4.51 GPA, Carter is a member of the National Honor Society as well as the Spanish, English and American Sign Language Honor Societies. He has been on the A Honor Roll for every grading period throughout high school. Carter scored a 34 out of a possible 36 on the ACT exam. He additionally has 3 perfect AP exam scores to his name, and in 2018 Carter received a National Spanish Exam Bronze Medal.

An active member of his school community, Carter is a member of the Student Council Association where he is the President of the Sports Tournament Committee. He is currently the Treasurer of the ASL Honor Society. As  a junior Carter was the Model Congress Vice Chair of Oversight Committee. He is currently the Co-President of the Gardening/Environmental Club. Carter held an internship as a senior at St. Christopher’s School with the Summer Institute on Leadership and Public Service. He is a two year Richmond Friends of the Community Club member. Additionally, he has been a 4 year member of: the Green Machine Pep Club, the Frisbee Club, Dodgeball Club, Hackeysack Club, and the Spanish Club.

During his time at Maggie Walker, Carter has participated in four Varsity sports since freshman year. Currently a captain for the Cross Country Team, Carter is a part of the 2016, 2017 and 2018 2A Regional and State Championship Team. In 2018 Carter was named an All-State Runner. He was selected for the All Academic Team in 16, 17 and 18. Carter qualified for the Junior Olympics Championship 3 times, and he is currently ranked 23rd fastest in Virginia. Currently a captain of the Indoor Track Team, Carter was ranked the 49th best in the nation for the 1000m. He is the 2018 1000m State Champion, 2017 & 2018 4x800m Relay State Champion, and the 2018 4x400m Relay State Champion. The team took home the 2018 State Championship and the 2016, 2017 & 2018 Regional Championship. Carter holds numerous Regional Championship Titles for indoor track, and he was chosen for the All Academic Team in 2016, 2017 & 2018. A captain for Outdoor Track, Carter is the 2019 4x800m Relay state Champ and a 3x team State Champion. He was All State for the 800m in 2019. Carter holds multiple Regional Titles, and he is a 3x All Academic Team recipient. Carter additionally is a 4 year Varsity Soccer player for Maggie Walker as a left forward/wing. The team won the 2017 State Championship and are 3x Regional Champs. In 2018 Carter was selected for the 2nd Team All Region, and he has been named to the All Academic Team in 2017, 2018 & 2019.

Carter regularly gives his time to various service projects and local organizations. He volunteered for the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store in 2019 and a Habitat building site over the summer of 2018 and 2019. He has spent time with the Operation Turbo 5k and Pop Thrift/Stay RVA. Carter volunteered for Maggie Walker’s Model UN and the freshman orientation (summer 2019). He has spent summers working with the Appalachian Service Project. He has given time for the Richmond Friends of the Community and Richmond Public Schools Beatification. In the fall of 2018, Carter volunteered for the Spanberger for Congress Campaign.

Carter has won a dinner for two and is now in the running for the $25,000 scholarship.
