Pursuit of Perfection Leadership Award Nominee Week 19 – Skyler Zunk from Cosby High School.

Congratulations Skyler Zunk from Cosby High School, our week 19 nominee for the Lexus of Richmond Pursuit of Perfection Leadership Award!

With a GPA of 4.45, Skyler is the president of the National Honor Society, a member of the National Spanish Honor Society, the National Beta Club, Key Club, and the Cosby Health Science Specialty Center, and was named Health Science Exploration Student of the Year in 2012. He is active in the Boy Scouts as an Eagle Scout with three palms (gold, silver, bronze). He has been Senior Patrol Leader, Troop Guide and Den Chief, and was awarded the 2013 Glenn A. and Melinda W. Adams National Eagle Scout Service Project of the Year Award for the outdoor worship center he built at Bethia United Methodist Church. Skyler has also been elected as a delegate for the Boys State, is a contributor to the “Letter to the Editor” section of the Richmond Times Dispatch, an elected crew leader of the Philmont Scout Ranch Trek, member of the Philmont High Adventure Rayado Trek, attended the Buckskin National Youth Leadership training in 2012, and is member of the National UMC Council and recipient of the Good Samaritan Award for the United Methodist Church. Also active on the field, Skyler’s passion lies in running track and cross country. In cross country, he has earned 4 varsity letters, All-Conference in 2014, and was team captain in 2013 and 2014. He is also the team captain of both his indoor and outdoor track teams, for which he has earned 4 varsity letters in both, as well as All-Conference in 2014. He has also been on the Woodlake Swim Team for 5 years and was a 3-time championship meet qualifier. Skyler has been very active in the community, donating his time to the VDOT Adopt a Highway Litter Pick-up (for the last 7 years), Phillips Fire House Fall Festival (last 6 years), Bethia United Methodist Mens Club (x6 years), and Scouting for Food (x12 years). He has also donated 30+ hours of healthcare-oriented volunteer work for the past 4 years and has been appointed as a student member of the Chesterfield County School Health Advisory Board, as well as the School Board Student Wellness Policy 4190 Revision Board.

Skyler plans to attend Washington and Lee University where he will run cross country and track and will major in Bio/Science to work towards getting his MD and PHD.

Skyler has won a dinner for two at Fleming’s Steakhouse and is now in the running for the $10,000 scholarship.
