Lexus of Richmond Leadership Award Week 28 – Evelyn Saunders

Our week 28 nominee for the Lexus of Richmond Leadership Award is Evelyn Saunders of the Maggie L Walker Governor’s School. A National Honor Society member, she currently has a 4.14 GPA. She scored a 32 on the ACT out of a possible 36. Evelyn was awarded the Spirit of Citizenship Award from the High School Leaders Program at UVA’s Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership.

Evelyn has been a part of Maggie Walker’s varsity field hockey team since freshman year and was the team captain during her senior season. The team was a State Finalist in 2014 and the Conference Champion in 2014, 2015 and 2016. She is also an avid dancer, since 2005 she has taken Scottish Highland dance. She is a Premiere or professional level dancer with the British Association of Teachers of Dance. She is the Co-President of the National English Honor Society, and the Vice President of the National Art Honor Society. Evelyn is a representative in the Student Council Association. She has held multiple mentorships with architectural firms such as: Glave and Homes with Jill Nolt and HKS Architects with Eric Thomas.

Since 2010, Evelyn has been a server at Redeemer Episcopal Church. She has also been a Youth Representative since 2015 where she works on regular community service projects. With Miles of Scarves, a knitting charity club, Evelyn has worked on raising money to end Multiple Sclerosis. The group knits scarves and other products to sell at events, they then donate the money to researchers. RAMPS or Ramp Access Made Possible by Students works on fundraising efforts and build ramps for Maggie Walker. Evelyn has been a member of RAMPS since 9th grade and has been the treasurer since 11th grade.

Lexus of Richmond Leadership Award Week 27 – Olivia Fisher

Lexus of Richmond’s week 27 nominee for the Leadership Award is Olivia Fisher of Atlee High School. A member of the National Honor Society, Olivia is ranked in the top 40 of her class with a 4.42 GPA. She is in the German National Honor Society and the Beta Club.

As a part of Atlee’s varsity swim team, Olivia has received the High Point Award and holds four individual swim records at the school. Recently Olivia signed a Letter of Intent to swim for NC State. While at Atlee, she took 5 VHSL Individual/Relay State Champion titles. From 2014 – 2016, Olivia was named to the USA Swimming Scholastic All American team. She has been selected for the All Metro first and Second Teams. As the captain of the Poseidon Hanover Swim Club, she was chosen as the swimmer of the year, and she holds 18 individual records for the club. While at Atlee, Olivia has been involved in the German Club and the Key Club. She is a member of the Ruriteens Club, an Art Guild member and a part of Teachers for Tomorrow.

Olivia is a swimming instructor for young children. She created her own business where she plans out the schedules and manages the funding and advertising. She is involved other organizations such as Fox Holiday Socks and Destination Imagination. She has volunteered for the Fall Festival at Pearson’s Corner Elementary School and she tutors other students in math.

BB&T’s Convertibles on the Lawn

We would like to thank BB&T for putting on this wonderful event held on April 20, 2017 at The Country Club of Virginia on Saint Andrews Lane in Richmond, Virginia. Lexus of Richmond was proud to be invited and be a part of such a fun afternoon with terrific company.

The lawn was filled with numerous vehicles from dealerships throughout the RVA area. We displayed our top of the line 2017 LS sedan as well as our 2017 RC coupe.

It was a terrific event, enjoyed by all!

Lexus of Richmond Leadership Award Week 26 – Shelby Vandergriff

Our week 26 nominee for the Lexus of Richmond Leadership Award is Shelby Vandergriff of Glen Allen High School. With a 4.237 GPA, she is the President of the National Honor Society for her senior year and is a member of Mu Alpha Theta. She placed 1st for Outstanding Interpretation for the GAHS Reflections in Literature/Poetry. Shelby is also the State Champion at the Virginia Council on Economic Education in Personal Finance.

Shelby is a part of Glen Allen’s varsity field hockey team where she was the captain for her senior year. She has received the MVP for the 2015 and 2016 seasons. She has been named to the First Team All Conference, Second Team All Conference, and the Academic All Conference Team. Shelby has also been a member of both the indoor and outdoor track teams. She has collected track awards such as; a Varsity Award, All Conference Award, Academic All Conference Award, All Region Award, and Academic All Region. Outside of athletics, Shelby is the Pep Club President and the school’s yearbook editor. She is a member of the student advisory which has monthly meetings with the principal. For junior and senior year, Shelby has been her class historian.

Active in the community, Shelby has spent time volunteering for the Richmond Police Athletic League where she taught children to play baseball. She has spent time working on landscaping at Glen Allen High as well as leading Freshman Orientation. Shelby has given time to the Glen Allen Public Library to help organize books and assist with book sales, and she has even volunteered for the Girl’s Babe Ruth State Tournament.

Lexus of Richmond Leadership Award Week 25 – Caroline Hastings

Caroline Hastings of Hanover High School is Lexus of Richmond’s week 25 nominee for the Leadership Award Scholarship. She is a member of the National Honor Society with a 4.43 GPA. Caroline is a Hanover County Scholar and member of the BETA Club. While competing at the Metro Richmond Science Fair, she was awarded the Virginia Water Works Award. She has received an Honorable Mention on both the National Latin Exam and the National German Exam.

As a member of the Williamsburg Boat Club Rowing Team, Caroline has placed at various events and competitions. She placed 1st at event such as: Head of the Occoquan, Head of the James, and Mathews Regatta. She also took home a third place finish at the Mid-Atlantic Youth Championship. Caroline plans to continue rowing in college as she is set to sign on with La Salle University in the coming weeks. She is also an accomplished runner as she has competed for the cross country team as well as outdoor and indoor track. She is as member of Hanover High’s Model United Nations, the German Club, and the Environmental Science Club. She is the President of the Latin Club, President of the FBLA and the Vice President of DECA.

Involved in the community, Caroline received a Silver Award from the Richmond City Library and a Bronze award from the SPCA. She has been a part of the Cystic Fibrosis Walk and the Richmond Marathon. Other organizations she participates with include Angel Tree, Caritas and Stop Hunger Now; and she picks up trash around the James River.

Lexus of Richmond Leadership Award Week 24 – Hayden Mitchell

Lexus of Richmond’s week 24 nominee for the Leadership Award Scholarship is Hayden Mitchell of St. Christopher’s School. Currently he has a 4.1 GPA and has received high honors every year in high school. He received a Silver Medal on the National Spanish Exam during his freshman and sophomore year. As a junior, Hayden was selected for the William and Mary Leadership Award. This award is chosen by the faculty for a junior who has outstanding leadership, scholarship and loyalty to the school and community.

As a wide receiver for St. Chris’ varsity football team, Hayden was the team captain his senior season. He was named to the All-Metro, All-State, and All-Prep teams. In his final season, he set multiple school records such as; receiving yards in a season, receiving yards per catch, receiving yards per game, receiving yards in a game, and receiving touch downs in a season. Recently, he committed to play football at UVA. Hayden is also on the baseball team as a catcher, infielder and outfielder; and he is the senior team captain. He has been a middle school mentor for there years and a freshman peer advisor for two years. As a senior, Hayden was selected by classmates to serve as a representative on the Honor Council. He is also a board member of the Saints for Social Justice which promotes awareness for diversity, tolerance, inclusion, equality and social justice.

Before freshman year, Hayden attended a community service and language immersion trip to Costa Rica. He has been a volunteer for FeedMore in participation with Foodbank and Community Kitchen. He is the Captain of the Saints $100-4-100 which raises money for low income students. The kids are then able to spend their $100 at Christmas time. Hayden is the Head of Saturday Academy at St. Chris. The program allows elementary students from at-risk situations to be tutored and play games with the high school students at St. Chris.

Lexus of Richmond Leadership Award Week 23 – Olivia Walker

Our week 23 nominee for the Lexus of Richmond Leadership Award is Olivia Walker of Cosby High School. Ranked 10th in her class with a 4.7 GPA, Olivia is a member of the National Honor Society and Latin National Honor Society. For three straight years, she was selected as the Latin Student of the Year. She attended the Summer Residential Governor’s School and participated as a Junior Marshal. Olivia is a Finalist for the Jefferson Scholarship at UVA and received the Provost Scholarship at VCU.

Being a member of the varsity volleyball team at Cosby, Olivia was the team captain this past season. During her time on the team, she was presented the Heart and Hustle Award and was selected for the All Tournament Team. She has also been a part of a travel team and a beach volleyball team; both through the Richmond Volleyball Club. Olivia is also a well-versed dancer. She competes as a part of the Heart of Ireland Celtic Pulse Dance Company where she was a World Qualifier in the Open Level for both softshoe and hard shoe. Outside of Irish dance, she has trained in ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, lyrical and hip hop. At Cosby, Olivia is a member of the Beta Club and Latin Club as well as the Health Occupations Students of America. She is the President of the National Honor Society. Olivia is a member of two show choirs: Spotlight and Rhapsody.

Olivia spends time volunteering for the Children’s Hospital of Richmond and Safe Kids VA. She also performs at various nursing homes in the area. She has been a camp instructor and a coach through the Richmond Volleyball Club Outreach program. Other programs she has worked with include; the PTA at CE Curtis Elementary, Vacation Bible School, and Friends Feeding Friends. Olivia has even founded a service called Re-Turn Dancewear.

Lexus of Richmond Leadership Award Week 22 – Edward Anderson

Edward Anderson of St. Christopher’s School is Lexus of Richmond’s week 22 nominee for the Leadership Award Scholarship. With a 4.5 GPA, he is ranked in the top 10% of his graduating class. On the SAT’s, he scored a 1460 out of a possible 1600. He has received academic honors every semester of high school; and in his junior year, he was presented the Dartmouth Book Award which was chosen by the faculty.

While attending St. Chris, Edward founded the school’s mountain bike team. He qualified and competed in the cycling national championships. He was the winner of the National Interscholastic Mountain Bike Association, and in the same season, he went undefeated in all four of his races. Edward won multiple races including: the Dominion Riverrock Bike Race, Virginia High School Mountain Bike Series Forest Hill Park, and the Tidewater Marathon Race to name a few. In 2017 he was selected as a professional cyclist for Axeon Hagens Berman for a U23 international team. Edward is the co-head of the middle school mentoring program at St. Chris as well as a peer advisor for 9th grade students. He is a member of Students for Environmental Awareness, a Missionary Society Member, and a Senior Admissions Advisor. Edward also completed his Eagle Scout Project and earned a Bronze Palm.

Through his involvement with the Boy Scouts, Edward has volunteered at the Berkeley Plantation from 2013-2015. He volunteers for Caritas through Second Presbyterian Church and Reveille Methodist Church. Since 2014, Edward has been volunteering for rvaMORE. Through this organization, he has been working to build and maintain trails throughout the James River Park System.
